The city of Hartford is a small town surrounded by the natural greenery of Kentucky. "Home of 2,000 happy people and a few soreheads" has been our slogan for many years. But don't worry; "soreheads" are community-minded, progressive citizens who work to promote civic pride. These citizens work hard to generate enthusiasm for our community so we can build a stronger local government.

Nestled in Ohio County, our community has a long history that spans back centuries. The state of Virginia originally granted the 4,000-acre plot to Gabriel Madison. From there, the city of Hartford, KY was surveyed in 1782 and settled prior to 1790. It was named after a deer crossing on the Rough River, also known as a hart ford.
