Fire Department

The Hartford Fire Department has proudly served the Hartford community and surrounding fire district since 1905, providing fire suppression, rescue, emergency response, fire prevention, and public safety services. The department protects approximately 6,116 residents across a 122-square-mile fire district, extending beyond the City of Hartford to ensure timely emergency response throughout the service area. In addition to responding to fires, firefighters answer calls involving vehicle accidents, rescues, hazardous conditions, medical assistance, and other emergencies that impact the safety of our community. In 2025, the department responded to 425 emergency calls.

As of July 2026, the Hartford Fire Department transitioned from a fully volunteer department to a combination fire department by introducing scheduled part-time paid firefighter positions to complement its dedicated volunteer members. This milestone strengthens emergency response capabilities while preserving the volunteer tradition that has served Hartford for generations. Under the leadership of Fire Chief Billy Henderson, the department continues to invest in training, equipment, and grant opportunities to enhance public safety.
