The Hartford Police Department is accepting applications to fill one police officer position. We welcome applicants beginning a career in law enforcement and officers who are already POPS certified.
We seek individuals with strong moral character, integrity, and a commitment to serving our community. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be willing to work holidays and weekends, and be flexible with scheduling.

Our Selection Process includes:
Phase One: Application and Initial Interview
- Submit a completed application and résumé.
- Participate in practice POPS physical agility testing, as applicable.
- Complete an initial interview.
Phase Two: Panel Interview
Selected applicants will complete a final interview with a panel consisting of the Police Chief, Assistant Chief, Sergeant, Mayor, a Council Member, and a member of the public.
Upon successful completion of the department’s application and interview phases, the selected applicant will receive a conditional offer of employment. Final employment is contingent upon successful completion of all applicable state hiring, screening, and certification requirements.
Applicants Who Are Not POPS Certified
Following selection, applicants must complete the applicable Kentucky Law Enforcement Council pre-certification requirements before entering basic training through the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training.
Minimum eligibility includes U.S. citizenship, a valid driver’s license, a high school diploma or GED, and being at least 20 years old to test and 21 by basic training graduation. Applicants must meet criminal-history and military-discharge standards.
The process includes physical agility testing, suitability screening, a background investigation, and—following a conditional offer—additional required testing and examinations. The department will coordinate testing and provide instructions for required forms.
Currently POPS-Certified Officers
Certified applicants will be considered through the applicable lateral hiring process. This includes verification of certification status and standing, review of prior employment, background and fingerprint checks, and completion of required state hiring documentation. Requirements will depend on the applicant’s certification and employment history.
