Hartford, KY – Sept. 17, 2025 – This fall, Hartford will sparkle with spooky spirits and autumn charm as homes and businesses across the city take part in the Haunt & Harvest Decorating Contest. From glowing jack-o’-lanterns and eerie entryways to rustic fall displays of golden gourds, the contest invites everyone to celebrate the season with creativity and community pride. The contest is free to enter and open to any resident or business with a Hartford, Kentucky, address. Participants may choose a Halloween theme, a Harvest/Autumn look, or a blend of the two, transforming porches, storefronts, and yards into festive displays for all to enjoy. Organizers encourage family-friendly fun: think “spooky, not scary” — ghosts, skeletons, and witches are welcome, but no gore or graphic imagery.
The free registration is open now through October 20 at 11:59 p.m. CST (link below). Once the deadline passes, a panel of anonymous judges will tour the displays from October 21 to 24, with winners announced on October 25 on the Hartford, Kentucky Facebook page.
Cash prizes are up for grabs in both residential and business categories: $200 for first place and $100 for second. In addition, participants can earn bragging rights in the “Best Of” categories, which highlight standout displays such as Spooktacular Lights (best lighting effects), Best Haunted Entryway, Harvest Harmony, and Rustic Charm Champion.
All entries will have their addresses shared publicly on social media and publications so neighbors and visitors can tour the displays. Prize winners will have 30 days to pick up their awards from Hartford City Hall.
Community members who suggested the event shared, “We can’t wait to see Hartford’s creativity shine!”
